You take a package to the local shipping company. They charge a fixed base cost of $5 per package plus an additional $0.33 per pound. If P represents the number of pounds of your package, and C is the total cost of shipping your package, which of these is the correct relationship between P and C?
@darkknight
@AZ
y = mx + b m is the slope or rate of change b is the y-intercept or the initial value we want to know the total cost of our package C as the package weighs different amounts so x is P and y is C C = mP + b what is our initial cost? That's the number that belongs in place of b
and the slope or rate of change is the cost that we keep on increasing as the weight increases
replace that number with m
c=5p+ 0.33
was the base price 5 or 0.33? the initial or base price is the y-intercept
c =0.33p + 5
Look at what it says 0.33 PER POUND doesn't that sound like a rate to you? we'd be increasing by 0.33 for every pound
now that's correct
THANKS!!! you helped me so much
