Can somebody please tell me the formula I need to do? I can do the rest.

Hello Raaraa! We need to come up with two equations and then solve it to find the answer

Raaraaismyname:

Okay, I'm with you. Which goes where?

AZ:

Let's call the number of hours she babysits as 'x' and the number of hours she teaches music lessons as 'y'

AZ:

Still following allowing so far?

Raaraaismyname:

Yes

AZ:

(some students get confused with the whole 'x' and 'y' so I wanted to make sure)

Raaraaismyname:

Its fine, then what?

AZ:

So your question says that she works a total of 26 hours she worked some of those hours babysitting and the rest of those hours teaching music

AZ:

remember how we said `x` was for hours babysitting and `y` was for hours giving music lessons? that means we can come up with our first equation x + y = 26 because the total number of hours is 26 and x hours was babysitting and y hours was giving music lessons

Raaraaismyname:

Ohhhh, okay. I follow.

AZ:

So that's our first equation! Now, how much does she earn babysitting? And how much does she earn by giving music lessons? (it's in your question stem so look back at that)

Raaraaismyname:

220 total.

AZ:

yes, she earns 220 total so for our next equation we're going to have something something = 220 but how much does she earn per hour by babysitting and how much does she earn per hour by giving music lessons?

Raaraaismyname:

I'm guessing it would be 5x + 11y = 220?

Raaraaismyname:

For the second equation.

AZ:

You got it!! It's because x was the total hours worked as a babysitter if she earns 5 dollars per hour then the total amount of money she makes from babysitting would be 5 * x and similarly for the music lessons, it would be 11y and the combined money she earned from babysitting and music lessons was 220

AZ:

So now you have your two equations x + y = 26 5x + 11y = 220

Raaraaismyname:

I know! I believe that I can do the rest. Thank you so much for your help.

AZ:

That's awesome! Let me know if you want me to check your answer. I'd be more than happy to :)

Raaraaismyname:

Yep!
