MrsHero:

write an expression where you multiply 0.035 times the power of ten so that the product is greater than 1 and less than 100 please help

Shayla:

mkay do you have any guesses so far?

MrsHero:

no

MrsHero:

saidly

Shayla:

Alright so you're supposed to multiply the number by a power of ten

Shayla:

like 0.035 * 10^1

Shayla:

but if you were to do that expression it wouldn't be a number greater than 1

Shayla:

sooo what you need to do is find out which power of ten will make it so that the 0.035 in between the values of 1-100

Shayla:

does that make sense?

Shayla:

Right so by doing 0.035*10^1, you get 0.35 which is less than 1

Shayla:

0.035 has three decimal places which means that if we multiply by 1000 (10^3) then we have the product 35 which is greater than 1 and less than 100, however, if we multiply 0.035 by something like 10000 (10^4) then the output will be greater than 100, which is invalid.

Shayla:

does that help at all?

Shayla:

Also, 0.035 could be multiplied 100 (10^2) giving you the value of 3.5 which is also in between the values of 1-100 so that could be a possible answer too.
