A rectangle is 12 feet long and 5 feet wide. If the length of the rectangle is increased by 25% and the width is decreased by 20%, what is the change in the area of the rectangle? The change in the area of the rectangle is square feet.
ok, first, are there option choices? or is it free response?
free response
ok, what is 12 increased by 25%? Do you know?
15.00
ok good, now what is the other percent?
in the question
yes, 5 decreased by 20%
4
are you sure? How did you get that?
oopd its 15
I'm letting you know i'm not good at this math stuff lol
you still there??
OK thats fine, lets work this out: We have 5 and we want to decrease by 20% 1. We will multiply by 100% of 5 2. then minus the % we want to subtract in decimal form or in other words (since we are subtracting 20% we will multiply 80% or 0.8. Do you see what I did there? ^ since we cant go over 100% we will do 80% since we already have 20% 80% + 20% = 100% ? right?
Do that work and tell me what you get. If you need more help, just ask, ill be here.
ok thank you
@Extrinix is that good explanation? or do I need to explain more?
No that's fine i'm just trying to figure it out
