simsharrison:

ok, first, are there option choices? or is it free response?

EmilyHerron:

free response

simsharrison:

ok, what is 12 increased by 25%? Do you know?

EmilyHerron:

15.00

simsharrison:

ok good, now what is the other percent?

EmilyHerron:

in the question

simsharrison:

yes, 5 decreased by 20%

EmilyHerron:

4

simsharrison:

are you sure? How did you get that?

EmilyHerron:

oopd its 15

EmilyHerron:

I'm letting you know i'm not good at this math stuff lol

EmilyHerron:

you still there??

simsharrison:

OK thats fine, lets work this out: We have 5 and we want to decrease by 20% 1. We will multiply by 100% of 5 2. then minus the % we want to subtract in decimal form or in other words (since we are subtracting 20% we will multiply 80% or 0.8. Do you see what I did there? ^ since we cant go over 100% we will do 80% since we already have 20% 80% + 20% = 100% ? right?

simsharrison:

Do that work and tell me what you get. If you need more help, just ask, ill be here.

EmilyHerron:

ok thank you

simsharrison:

@Extrinix is that good explanation? or do I need to explain more?

EmilyHerron:

No that's fine i'm just trying to figure it out

EmilyHerron:

yep i'm stuck🤦

simsharrison:
