A company sells t-shirts for $6 each. They also charge a one-time processing fee of $3 per order. Jamie ordered t-shirts and paid $45 for his order. Two days later, Jamie could not recall how many t-shirts he ordered. Which shows the equation that Jamie could use to find the number of t-shirts, x, he ordered and the solution of the equation? A)6x + 3 = 45, x = 7 B)6x + 3 = 45, x = 8 C)3x + 6 = 45, x = 13 D)3x + 6 = 45, x = 17

puppylover1234:

@AZ

AZ:

Hey so we need to come up with an equation

AZ:

We know that he spent a total of 45 dollars so whatever our equation is something something = 45

AZ:

but now we need to figure out what's on the other side so 6 dollars PER SHIRT and 3 dollars was a one time base fee

AZ:

if he buys 'x' number of shirts and each shirt costs 6 dollars how would we write the cost of x shirts?

puppylover1234:

B?

AZ:

why do you think B?

AZ:

are you sure you solve the equation correctly?

puppylover1234:

OH WAIT i didnt read it right ;-;

puppylover1234:

i dont understand?

AZ:

so let's go back to what I was saying if each shirt costs 6 dollars and we buy 'x' number of shirts how would we write that?

AZ:

think of it like this with a number if the `x` is too hard each shirt costs $6 and let's say we bough 6 shirts how would we calculate the price of 6 shirts?

AZ:

wouldn't it be a simple multiplication

puppylover1234:

yeah

AZ:

so we could say 6* 6 when I use the number or 6 * x if we keep x as a variable?

puppylover1234:

im sorry but im confused ;-;

puppylover1234:

im not the brightest

AZ:

so 'x' is just a letter that can represent any number but we multiply it to see the cost of how many 'x' shirts

AZ:

and the 3 dollars is just a ONE TIME fee but the 6 dollars increases each time we buy another shirt

AZ:

so what would the equation be? 6x + 3 or 3x + 6

puppylover1234:

6x + 3?

AZ:

there you go!

puppylover1234:

so A?

AZ:

\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @AZ We know that he spent a total of 45 dollars so whatever our equation is something something = 45 \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) and remember this?

AZ:

so 6x + 3 = 45

AZ:

let's solve it now what is 45 - 3 =

puppylover1234:

42

AZ:

now divide by 6

puppylover1234:

21

AZ:

because 6x + 3 = 45 6x + 3 - 3 = 45 - 3 6x = 42 so to get x we have to divide by 6

AZ:

are you sure that 42 / 6 is 21

puppylover1234:

oops its 7

puppylover1234:

i accidentally divided by 2 ;-;

AZ:

that's your answer

Shawnte:

a is da correct answer

puppylover1234:

Thank you! im so sorry for being difficult ;-;

Shawnte:

i can help u

AZ:

No problem :)
