Hey there! So do you know the slope-intercept form of an equation? y = mx + b m is the slope b is the y-intercept the y-intercept is where the line crosses the y-axis (basically when x=0)

AZ:

So let's start with the y-intercept where does the line cross the y-axis what is the y-value when x is 0

thatkid101:

i do know that part i have it written on my paper : /

AZ:

okay, so can you tell me what the y-intercept it? Here's an EXAMPLE |dw:1615057918899:dw|

thatkid101:

2?

AZ:

I said that was an EXAMPLE

AZ:

Take a look at your question

thatkid101:

i thought u meant what was it on ur example smh srry im dumb

AZ:

No no worries, so what is it in your question? What's the y-value when it crosses the y-axis

thatkid101:

ermmm idk tbh ik that it tells me that x is -1 and y is positive 2 ...

AZ:

yes but look at where it crosses the y-axis What is the y-value there? I circled it for you That's where it's crossing the y-axis

thatkid101:

-1

AZ:

There you go!! So that's our y-intercept so now we had y = mx + b and now we can replace b with the -1 so y = mx - 1 now we need to find `m` which is our slope

AZ:

I'll throw in colors for you \(\Large\text{Slope} = \dfrac{\color{green}{y_2} - \color{orange}{y_1}}{\color{aqua}{x_2}-\color{red}{x_1}}\) where you have two points \(\Large (\color{red}{x_1}, \color{orange}{y_1})\) and \(\Large (\color{aqua}{x_2}, \color{green}{y_2})\) So you're two points are \((\color{red}{-1}, \color{orange}{2})\) and \((\color{aqua}{1}, \color{green}{-4})\)

AZ:

Can you find the slope?

thatkid101:

sorry i got busy with something. i think i can if u can give me a min

AZ:

Sure! I'll be here!

thatkid101:

thank u !

HEY THAT'S CHEATING

thatkid101:

;-;

AZ:

you're supposed to be able to do it on your own ;-;

thatkid101:

our teachers make us user calculators so much it lowkey ruined us students smh

snowflake0531:

wait, how do you use a calculator to solve this

AZ:

smh smh but you DO know how to plug it into the formula right?

thatkid101:

yea i do

AZ:

they probably used like a slope calculator so they put in the two points and it did the work for them

snowflake0531:

oh LMAO

thatkid101:

big brain

snowflake0531:

never knew there was such thing as a 'slope calculator'

thatkid101:

theres a calculator for anything and everything

AZ:

Hey! I'm not going to complain because so many kids don't even realize how much they can get away with since there's calculators out there to do stuff

AZ:

EXACTLY but make sure you know how to do it yourself The calculators are there to help you save time

AZ:

So what is your slope?

snowflake0531:

:/ our teachers take away our calculators before tests

thatkid101:

: / u sound like a made 40 yr old man

snowflake0531:

cygfvuoihj

thatkid101:

mad*

AZ:

this isn't an actual calculator Snowflake, it's like online calculators

snowflake0531:

ikkkkk

snowflake0531:

but we do paper tests

AZ:

Aw shucks, you're on to me but let's finish your question quickly!

thatkid101:

wait no cap?? p-p

AZ:

So we had y = mx - 1 What is the slope? What does your handy little calculator say we just replace `m` with that number

thatkid101:

y=-3x-1 ;-;

snowflake0531:

dxufctiytg78yohuji fill in the equation-

AZ:

and there you have it!

thatkid101:

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh im trying to do math and english at the same timeee

AZ:

wait a sec, your screenshot already had it too LOL

AZ:

but well done!

snowflake0531:

then first do english math makes brains hurt

thatkid101:

i have like 30 things over due XDD

snowflake0531:

.... PROCRASTINATOR haha

thatkid101:

not procrastinating my english teacher has us do an essay every week

snowflake0531:

great

thatkid101:

i got behind..

snowflake0531:

what's the prompt

AZ:

Take it to DMs or the chats :v

snowflake0531:

post the prompt as a question

thatkid101:

ight old man - . -
