because even tho it has to be 'original' it can still be topped off from another story, like, similar, since, i've read a lot, and then, i start to realize, even tho some things change, the general plot stays the same

but think about teh general plot, adn then think about what details you can change, and change it enough so that it's 'similar' but not similar at all

like, i had to write a short story a few days ago, and i went off of it a bit from the Throne of Glass series, if you read it, no one would be able to tell i was thinking about ^^^ that series tho

okay, since i haven't read that book, i don't exactly know which parts to help you
but
step one, think about the extremely extremely GENERAL plot
step two, think about what you can change of the details
step three, after step two, you'll think that there'll be a lot of flaws inteh plot, so change it
step four, start writing haha
