snowflake0531:

i need more info than that

skiboose:

A buyer for a specialty clothing manufaturer must have at least 2000 bales of pima cotton, Pima cotton weighs at least 420 kilograms per bale. A cotton broker has a shipment with weights that are normall distributed with a m ean of 376kg and st deviation of 22 kilograms. How many bales should the buyer buy in order to assure that he has at least 200 bales that weith 420 kg each? a 80,000 b: 100,000 c: 37,600 D: 78,000

skiboose:

2000 bales that weigh 420 kg each

snowflake0531:

*severely confused*

AZ:

so 420 is 2 standard deviations away from the mean of 376 kg

AZ:

so basically they're going to buy an insane amount of bales and they'll have a bunch that are around the mean of 376 but how many do you have to buy that you'll get 2000 bales that have at least a mean of 420

AZ:

does that make sense?

AZ:

so do you know the standard deviation curve?

AZ:

there's only going to be 2.1% + 0.1% or 2.2% of all the bales you buy will have a mean that's 2 standard deviations higher than 376 kg which would be 420 kg

AZ:

so 2.2% of all the bales will have a mean of 420 kg so how many bales would you need to buy for 2000 of them to be 420 kg 2.2% of what total = 2000

skiboose:

so 100,000 gives us 2200 bales

AZ:

you got it
