Should the legal system treat juveniles and adults equally/same?
yes
yes
well, depends on how young/old
Yeah it depends
if u have enough sense to know right from wrong den yes
Like, it should be changed to like 15 or 16, not 18
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @snowflake0531 Like, it should be changed to like 15 or 16, not 18 \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) wat should khange
It's like 18+ and 17- rn
u didnt answer my question
i don't get your question?
i asked wat should khange,,u said it should change to 15 or 16,,wat should
The age in which it separates the adults from youths in being treated equally in the legal system ^
Ye, what Shayla said
So, a 15-year-old thief, and a 40-year-old thief should be treated equally?
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @Floo So, a 15-year-old thief, and a 40-year-old thief should be treated equally? \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) indeed
yes
no, not necessarily
Maybe 16 then
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @Shayla no, not necessarily \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) if they both did the same krime then y should the 15 year old get less time than the 40 year old
You cant do that has to be a definite answer. The law either differentiates or it doesn't
Youths aren't fully developed so it should be a bit more flexible for them
Then I change my answer to no
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @Shayla Youths aren't fully developed so it should be a bit more flexible for them \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) a 15 year old knows wat he/she is doin when they do the krime

yes
u dont juss steal and think if u get kaught u go in the korner lool
Well yes they might know its wrong but their brains arent fully developed so a decision made by a 15 might not be fully thought through
like they may not understand the seriousness of their actions yk @Tyrion
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @Tyrion u dont juss steal and think if u get kaught u go in the korner lool \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) Do you have younger siblings? Maybe nephews/nieces?

Juveniles do know what is right from wrong, and they should be held responsible for their behavior and face consequences for their actions but because juveniles are more impetuous than adults, they are inherently less responsible for their acts, and are therefore less deserving of harsh punishment :)
To an adult, a 15-year-old is a baby. To a 15-year-old, an 11-year-old is a baby. Would you treat an 11-year-old and a 15-year-old the same?

Most, yes
not all do
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @Shayla not all do \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) yes or no lool
I said yes
yes
ok,,a 15 year old know dat sex is bad and they dont want their parents to know?? yes or no
Yes, because they are underage, and they don't know any better
they know they will get in trouble right? yes or no lol
Just cause they're underage doesn't stop the fact that they know what's right and what's wrong
Yes, because they dont know any better
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @KiWiPoP1 Just cause they're underage doesn't stop the fact that they know what's right and what's wrong \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) thank uuuuuuu
That's like if they're 15, excuse them for murder cause they dk any better
But it does
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @KiWiPoP1 That's like if they're 15, excuse them for murder cause they dk any better \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) my poiiinnntttttttttt
That's stupid What if they murdered your parents or something? It's just that it hasn't happened on you, that makes you feel indifferent towards the matter.
murderers under the age of 18 get held in a juvenile facility until they hit 18
um- murder is murder
I think around 14 is when they know at that point what's definitely wrong
like I said before their not fully developed so they don't know the full consequences of their actions
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @Floo murderers under the age of 18 get held in a juvenile facility until they hit 18 \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) wats ur point
I mean, ig it varies on the crime
\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @Shayla like I said before their not fully developed so they don't know the full consequences of their actions \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) No, they know, they just use it as an excuse-_-
but murder is a no no
that murder is bad anyways they still need serve time in jail

that made *
So, a 15 year old boy who grew up in the streets steals a car. Should get thrown in jail for a few years, and not just go through rehabilitation & counseling?
there's too much empathy in the world hm
it should depend on the severity of the crime committed

Did you know that 76% of inmates end up going back in jail. Sometimes for a crime worse than the one they committed prior

Like said, it should vary on the severity on the crime
The are many pros and cons to that, but mainly it depends on what you did, like to get into jail and also how old you are. (ex: if a 30 man kills someone, and if a 16 year old goes into there for,, idk.. stealing. Those two people should not be treated equally.) Equality is a good thing at the right time. But when it comes to things like that, it doesn't even make sense. But that's my opinion.
Jail teaches them nothing besides being more "gangster" They would be a better use to society if they went to counseling, Dont jump to murder

I think both underage ppl and adults should be the same, maybe excluding life sentences, you can go on yt and find these teens who've been sentenced to life, for murders, you'd get the same things with adults
They should be treated the same in the justice system
if a kid knows what he is doing he need to get the punishment he deserves end of story

Cant compare those to a petty theft crime or vandalism
You're comparing largely separate points
You compare theft for ex.) and list adults for pedophilia n stuff

Some even end up having to follow mandatory curfews. Which vast majority don't which just makes things worse
juvy is for kids, federal prison is for adults, if youre in juvy for murder, you get transferred to federal prison once you're 18
So the 13-year-old in Washington who steals should be charged for theft? 1st Degree is a Class B Felony punishable by a maximum of 10 years in jail and a $20,000 fine. Actual penalties for a Washington theft crime, however, are determined by the Sentencing Reform Act, RCW 9.94A and the Washington State Sentencing Guidelines.

"While the exact punishment will vary with the age of the child, the amount embezzled, and your specific state, stealing and embezzlement (a form of theft) are both crimes and crimes can carry jail time even for minors."

well i think it would also depend on the crime
Honestly, I would agree with the person that said "It depends on the crime" which it does then the rules should change on if juveniles and adults should be treated equally/the same. I don't think they should but at some points in time if they cross the line with a law they broke that opinion would change. Ex: A 15 yr old robs a couple of corner stores here and there gets caught etc. She should be tried/treated legally as a juvenile, not an adult bc it's a little crime, not some huge thing. But if a 15 or 16 and up yr old kills a person and the evidence clearly states that it wasn't on accident they should be legally tried as an adult, it honestly common sense that if they had the smarts to kill that person purposely they knew they were doing wrong the whole time, and its simply known that a crime like that is a big, big thing. So many things u have to think about before making a fully opinionated response to a question like this.
