so if we're paying 6% tax on something, we're taking 6% of that price and adding it to the original price

That's the same thing as multiplying the original price by 1 + 0.06 or 1.06

How did you get this? It's very close to the correct answer- but it isn't the correct answer

Do you know how to solve for x?

7.95 = 1.06x

all you have to do is divide 1.06 on both sides and you'll have 'x' which is the price of the cooler without sales tax
