Both carbohydrates and lipids serve as energy sources. A runner is deciding what to eat before the big race. Identify which type of macromolecule would be the better energy source for the runner and explain your reasoning for chosing one over the other.

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

@AZ

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

carbohydrates?

AZ:

Yep

AZ:

and do you know why?

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

im not sure

AZ:

carbs are sugars so think glucose what do you form if you're eating a lot of sugars? you're running a marathon, so you're going to need energy would carbs be easier to breakdown or lipids so you can quickly get more energy?

AZ:

well actually I don't know if I can say "easier to breakdown" but lipids contain more energy than carbohydrates so when you break down a lipid vs a carbohydrate, you're getting more energy to use but think about it in terms of how long it takes to break down which one can you breakdown first?

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

carbohydrate

AZ:

Exactly, which is why they fill themselves up with carbs for like a week before their marathon so they can a little bit more energy to help them in the race
