Use the vertical line test to determine which of the following graphs represents a function. Select all correct answers.
@snowflake0531 @AZ
whole bunch of images, let's not get them confused do you remember what the vertical line test is?
yep
Yep!!
so which ones can you draw a vertical line | through it and it only touches that line once
the vertical line can be at any place?
yes, and you can/should draw multiple of them to check all over the graph because imagine you had |dw:1616377430883:dw|
if it only touches once is it a function?
It only passes through the line once! But can we say it passes the vertical line test? No!!!! |dw:1616377459312:dw| Because see |dw:1616377490423:dw|

you have to make sure that through the entire graph, it only touches once
is it A, B, and C?
Those are correct but there's one more so now look at D and E Do you know what that empty circle means? It basically means that point isn't included so if you have two full solid blue points in the same line, then it is NOT a function but if one circle is empty and the other one is a solid in the same line, then it IS a function
does that make sense?
its also D because the empty circle means its not there?
yup!
but E?
but E has two full circles so that means it's there at both points so it wouldn't pass the vertical line test
I didnt say its E you mentioned E soooooooo!!!!!!! LOL
ah, yes I just wanted to make you aware to their similarities so that way you could then differentiate between them and choose the correct one haha
