Well, an absolute phrase is a group of words that modifies an independent clause as a whole,so the phrase "The house is ugly" is an independent clause,what its asking you to do is technically make the phrase a compound sentence such as " The house is ugly,and that house is small." or "This house is ugly,but the space is neat."
