Waiting

"Stop pacing, Jaden," my brother Spencer barked. "Don't worry, I'll have your skateboard fixed and ready in no time. You will make it to your competition."
I nodded in agreement while trying my best not to pace. All the practice I've dedicated to this can't be ruined because my little sister decided to push my skateboard down the stairs.
Spencer finally announced he was finished fixing the wheel on my skateboard, and I was relieved it would be in time to join my friends, Milo and Robert, at the skate park for our neighborhood competition against the Clover Street Skaters. I tossed my skateboard in my bag, jumped on my bike, and rushed over to the skate park; arriving right before Milo started his first trick.

Passage 2

Diving In

Layla arrived at the swimming lanes early the day of her swim meet. Her emotions ranged from calm to eager as she approached her lane and crouched down to feel the water. Her preparation and dedication had brought her to this day, and she couldn't wait to dive in and give it her all. Looking around the empty lanes, she began to stretch and go through the techniques she had learned.
Soon, other swimmers began to enter the room, faces beaming with expectation. Layla smiled at them and continued to stretch while she appreciated the moment.

How does Layla approach her special day differently than Jaden?

I think we can cross off answer options "B. Layla practices before her swim meet, while Jaden waits for his brother to fix his skateboard." and "D. Layla feels confident she will do well, while Jaden is concerned about his chance of winning."

You'd cross off B bc it was never really Jadens intention to have his skateboard fixed right before his big day, it even states in the text " this can't be ruined because my little sister decided to push my skateboard down the stairs".So it's not something he exactly approached himself. By that, I think it would make B incorrect


You would also cross off answer option D bc nowhere in the text about Jaden does it say he's worried about not winning the competition against the Clover Street Skaters. Neither does it say anything about Layla wanting to win her swimming race.


So this would leave answer options "A. Layla has practiced hard to win her meet, while Jaden has not prepared for his competition." and "C. Layla arrives early to prepare for her meet, while Jaden hurries to arrive to his competition."


(This was kinda mixing me up bc of the way both of them were worded they seemed so similar)


We can cross off answer option A, I'd say this because in the text about Jaden it states "All the practice I've dedicated to this can't be ruined ".Jaden Obviously has been practicing on his skateboarding for this big competition against the Clover Street Skaters. In Layla's text, it also says something similar "Her preparation and dedication had brought her to this day".Laya too has been practicing for her swimming race. They are both prepared to win their competitions and have practiced hard to do so.


So what I'm thinking is that the answer is "C. Layla arrives early to prepare for her meet, while Jaden hurries to arrive to his competition."

I mean it does ever state that in the text's:


". I tossed my skateboard in my bag, jumped on my bike, and rushed over to the skate park"

So Jayden is in a rush to make it to his competition in time to skate.

In the other it says:

". Looking around the empty lanes, she began to stretch and go through the techniques she had learned. Soon, other swimmers began to enter the room, faces beaming with"

So Layla came to her swim meet and got in some swimming warm-ups before it even began.

I mean its all true for C



So the answer must be C.) Layla arrives early to prepare for her meet, while Jaden hurries to arrive to his competition.
