help

marissabartoldo:

GoodBoi543:

well, what is x

GoodBoi543:

taht would help

Shawnte:

@AZ he's like mad smart but i can help you too if you want.....whoever you prefer also @snowflake0531

AZ:

\( 4x^2 - 3x + 9 - (6x^2 +5x -9) \) Can you distribute the - sign inside the parenthesis? Basically the + inside will become - and the - will become +

marissabartoldo:

so 6x^2-5x+9?

AZ:

yes but the 6x^2 would also get a minus in front of it since technically it's a positive number and we're distributing that negative sign inside, if that makes sense if it was (-6x^2) inside then it would have become +6x^2 so now we have \( 4x^2 - 3x + 9 - 6x^2 -5x +9\)

AZ:

Do you know how to add like terms? You can only add/subtract the terms that both have x^2 or x or are just a number So for example, you cannot add/subtract 4x + 3 because 4x has an x and 3 does not

XxjazzychanxX:

try doing this x2 + 4x - 9

marissabartoldo:

would 7x^2 +9-11x^2+9 work for adding like terms

AZ:

No no let me add some colors \( 4\color{red}{x^2} - 3\color{orange}{x} + 9 - 6\color{red}{x^2} -5\color{orange}{x} +9\) Now let's simplify it one at a time So what is \( 4x^2 - 6x^2 =\)

marissabartoldo:

-2x^2

AZ:

Good! So now we have \( -2x^2 - 3\color{orange}{x} + 9 -5\color{orange}{x} +9\) now what is \( -3x - 5x = \)

marissabartoldo:

-8x

marissabartoldo:

so -2x^2-8x+18

AZ:

You got it!!

marissabartoldo:

ok thank you your so smart

AZ:

You're welcome!
