so do you see on the right side where it has those inequalities which one of those does 0 belong in? x < 0 \(0 \le x \le 3\) \( 3 \le x\) if x is 0, which one of those would replacing x with 0 make it true

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

im sorry can you explain in another ay

AZ:

sure so basically this "function" that we have has different rules depending on the x-value so if x is LESS THAN 0, then the graph would look like -x-2 if when is GREATER THAN OR EQUAL to 0 and LESS THAN 3 then the graph looks like x and when x is GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 3 then the graph looks like x^2 - 1

AZ:

does that make sense? so which one of them would be the graph when x is 0 would it be when x is LESS THAN 0 or when x is GREATER THAN OR EQUAL to 0

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

i meant to say eual to

AZ:

we're talking about when x is 0 is this true 0 > 0

AZ:

yeah!

AZ:

so it's the second one so when x is 0, it fits in the \( 0 \le x <3\) and so the equation there is just x so f(x) = x so what is f(x) when x is 0

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

im not sure

AZ:

so f(x) = x basically when x = some number then the y-value is going to be the same number so what is the y-value when x is 0?

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

0

AZ:

so that's your answer!

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

thanks

AZ:

no problem
