Solving this is quite easy. Looking at the missing side, we can see that our x side, or unknown plus 8 cm equals the opposite side, which is 12. Giving us an equation of: x + 8 = 12 We just have to solve for x

Essentially to solve a function like: x + 8 = 12 We have to isolate the value of x. Now how would we get x alone on one side of the equation? We would subtract 8 to get it off the right side, that way x is alone. That's how we solve a function. Just isolate the x, or unknown value.
