When... x=3 and y=-2 What is 'a' equal to? a - 5 * -0.5(7 - 1) + xy
How the hell do I do thissssssssssssssssss- ahhhhhhhhhhh @snowflake0531
Can you post a screenshot of your question? An equal sign or something is missing
Oops. xD It's "a = 5..." not "a - 5..."
Then just plug the values of x and y in-
so a = 5 * -0.5(7 - 1) + xy
it has an xy x is 3 y is 2 so xy is 3 * 2 which equals what?
-6 becuase it's -2
oh yeah, oops missed that so now we have a = 5 * -0.5(7 - 1) - 6 can you distribute the -0.5 into the parenthesis?
well actually, what is 7 - 1
6
so we have a = 5 * -0.5(6) - 6 what is -0.5 * 6 =
3?
add the negative sign
so -3
So now it's a = 5 * -3 - 6?
yes and we have to do multiplication first because PEMDAS so what is 5 * -3 =
-15? 15?
you don't know your signs._.
negative number times a positive number is a negative number
Oh okay. Yeah, I do not know my signs very well.
so positive 5 times negative 3 is going to be a negative number
-15
and finally -15 - 6 =
... -21??
you got it
Thank you, both of you.
