Part 2 – Developing Body Paragraphs

Part 1 – Organizing Your Ideas
Directions: Write a topic sentence for each body paragraph. (One body paragraph should focus on the author’s use of structure and one body paragraph should focus on the author’s use of language.) Use a mixture of paraphrased examples and direct quotations for your evidence. Write your examples and explanations in complete sentences.

Body Paragraph 1

Topic Sentence: Brittany Taylor utilized figurative language such as metaphors and other figurative languages to tell the audience why DACA shouldn't be closed.

According to the text”, These protesters couldn’t have known what Areliss felt as they shouted and waved pamphlets in our faces like tattered flags. But, I know their words were bullets to Areliss’s heart. I wanted to fire back to the protestors: Where are your ancestors from?''




Explanation of how the example serves purpose: Brittany uses some metaphors to explain how she felt about the pamphlets and shouts that talks about her friend, she didn't like the way the people we're handling the situation at all. So she tries to open up to her friend by having her back saying metaphors.



Example from text to support topic sentence: ''The term “Dreamers” refers to an act that would have protected these immigrant children if they attended college or served in the military. The DREAM Act did not pass, but its name has remained. DACA recipients have a dream: they dream that their lifelong contribution to the United States will one day be recognized, and they will be permitted to stay in the country they have always called home.''



Explanation of how the example serves purpose: She tries to motivate the audience into thinking she shouldn't back down by saying ''DACA recipients have a dream: they dream that their lifelong contribution to the United States will one day be recognized, and they will be permitted to stay in the country they have always called home.'' When she said that, in my opinion, I believe that she did the right thing for her friend (Areliss)and the people that did the rampage we're wrong for their actions.
