Two dice are rolled one after the other. Construct a sample space and determine the probability that the sum of the dots on the the dice total 6.
The sample space is 6 • 2 or 12 equally likely outcomes.

the sample space includes all the possible outcomes, which are 1,1 1,2 1,3 ... 1,6 2,1 2,2 ... 2,6 ... 3,6 ... 4,6 ...5,6 ... 6,6 a total of 36 possible outcomes. if you write them all out, and just count, you would get 4. Or you could just know that the only way you can sum to 5 is 1+4 and 2+3, and because each dice can roll either value, double that and so it's 4/36 = 1/9
