Without a Home
In class we discussed how animals need shelter and humans must provide it. Humans have made animals into pets and then sometimes lose them or do not care for them properly. Consider the following situation:
The Tinker family raised Spot from a puppy into an adult dog that was always fed and housed indoors. When they sold their house and moved into an apartment, they left Spot behind to fend for himself.
Be Spot. Write a short letter to the Tinkers describing what is unreasonable about this situation and what will be especially hard for you. Write in the first person and include the things you need, what might happen to you, and how they should have handled the situation instead of abandoning you.

Hello, this is spot, the dog that you gave a name to, raised as a part of your family, and the dog you said to have loved so much. You gave me so much love care and affection, but now you’ve left me behind, alone and confused. I am unable to fend for myself, you’ve given me everything I need and I didn’t have to worry about dog survival skills. You left me so suddenly and didn’t at least teach me how to go about things on my own. Everything will be so difficult from this day on, from finding my own food to taking my own baths. Now that you’ve left me behind I will have no place to live, and hardly any food to eat. It’s extremely difficult to get by with those people from the dog pound out to get me. I almost got hit by a car the other day when I was crossing the street, it’s not easy crossing the street without you holding the leash. I just wish that you would’ve at least given me to another family if you didn’t want me anymore. I don’t want to die alone out here in this scary world. People kick me and hit me when I go up to them for a little scrap of food to eat or some water to drink. Why did you abandon me? I’d be much happier with another family than out here on the streets alone trying to fend for myself. I’m scared and I’m tired, I’m also afraid I can no longer go on like this. I’m starving to death and it’s getting more difficult to breath. Please Tinker family, love me again and take me back or find me a new family.
