so if you add 2 then the equation becomes: y = x^2 + 2 every point is (x value, y value) so essentially, the original points were (x, x^2) (just substituting x^2 for y) now, it has become (x, x^2+2) now the y is the 'up or down' of the function. y is vertical, x is horizontal therefore the graph would be shifted up
