Well, preterite and imperfect is Spanish, so I don't understand what your getting at.

preterite is used for completed actions, generally with a finite duration and endpoint

imperfect is used for ongoing/repeated actions

so with that in mind, what are your thoughts about the sentence "I found out the answer!"
