So do you see how AB and BC are equal to each other? That means you just have to set the side lengths equal to each other and solve for 'x' -x + 25 = 3(2x-8)

coocheecoo:

oh ok

coocheecoo:

i still kinda dont get it

AZ:

So that line BD, it cuts the entire AC into two equal halves which makes AB = BC

coocheecoo:

yeah i got that

coocheecoo:

but like the x how am i going to get x from that

AZ:

so now all you have to do is solve for x AB = -x + 25 BC = 3(2x-8) so set them equal to each other AB = BC -x + 25 = 3(2x-8) we want to get 'x' all by itself, so first distribute the 3 inside the parenthesis remember a(b - c) = ab - ac so what is 3(2x - 8)

coocheecoo:

sorry man im a bit to slow for this a bit to much

AZ:

when we have a number outside the parenthesis ( ), we have to multiply everything side with it so we can get rid of the ( ) so |dw:1619194197771:dw|

AZ:

we have to do the same thing for 3 (2x - 8) = ?? multiply the 3 with 2x and the 3 with 8

coocheecoo:

6x and 24

AZ:

Good! so that means 3(2x - 8) = 6x - 24 does that make sense so far?

coocheecoo:

kinda

AZ:

okay so now we went from -x + 25 = 3(2x-8) and then we distributed the '3' inside the parenthesis and we got -x + 25 = 6x - 24 now we need to get 'x' all by itself so that means we need to move the numbers to one side, and anything with 'x' on one side so what do you get if you add 24 on both sides?

coocheecoo:

-x + 6x = 48?

AZ:

careful, one step at a time we have -x + 25 = 6x - 24 if we add 24 on both sides we get -x + 25 + 24 = 6x - 24 + 24 do you see how on the right side, the -24 + 24 will cancel out? so we're left with -x + 25 + 24 = 6x so what is 25 + 24 = ?? 48 isn't correct

coocheecoo:

yeah

coocheecoo:

sorry if im slow im trying to turn this in because its due in a bit

AZ:

no worries we have -x + 25 + 24 = 6x what is 25 + 24 = ??

coocheecoo:

48

AZ:

no... use a calculator

coocheecoo:

49

AZ:

there you go so we have -x +49 = 6x now we want the 'x' to be all on one side so let's bring that -x to the other side since it's a -x, we have to add 'x' on both sides what do you get when you add x on both sides?

coocheecoo:

idk

AZ:

what is -x + x = ? what is 6x + x = ?

coocheecoo:

2x and 7 x?

AZ:

2x isn't right remember it's negative x -x + x it's going to cancel out and be 0

coocheecoo:

oh ok

AZ:

so now we have 49 = 7x so now to get 'x' all by itself, you have to divide by 7 what is x?

coocheecoo:

7?

AZ:

That's correct!

coocheecoo:

thx
