A vertical plane passes through a pyramid that has a horizontal base. Which of the following can be produced from the intersection of the vertical plane and pyramid? Select all that apply. circle rectangle triangle square horizontal line segment trapezoid
Right away, I'm certain that getting a circle is impossible! I think triangle, horizontal line segment, and trapezoid are possible, and I'll try to show my reasoning for why
Use process of elimination, some are silly answer choices
I tried drawing pictures. Those were more confusing than helpful. Basically, if the vertical plane intersects the pyramid so that it slices through one of its points, the intersection forms a triangle. If the vertical plane intersects the pyramid so that it slices through one of its faces, the intersection forms a trapezoid. And if the vertical plane intersects the very edge of the pyramid's base, that forms a horizontal line. Sorry, it'd be easier to see the answer visually. Maybe we could use 3d models or something...?
I'm pretty bad and Blender, but here's some basic shapes to give you an idea of how the intersections would look
