kristiannnnnt:

The junior class has 50 students. Twenty-five students take only French, 15 take only Latin, and 10 take both. If a student is chosen at random from the class, what is the probability that the chosen student takes Latin? 1/4 1 1/2

SmokeyBrown:

If we pick any student by random, that student can be a "student who takes Latin" either if they take only Latin or if they take Latin and French. Put together, the students who take Latin are 15 (who take only Latin) + 10 (who take both). So, 25 out of 50 students take Latin. What is the probability of choosing one of these 25 students at random out of a group of 50?

kristiannnnnt:

so the answer would be 1/2
