Igueessee:

A summer camp cookout is planned for the campers and their families. There is room for 525 people. Each adult costs $9, and each camper costs $5. There is a maximum budget of $1,200. Write the system of inequalities to represent this real-world scenario, where x is the number of adults and y is the number of campers. x + y ≤ 525 5x + 9y ≤ 1,200 x + y ≤ 1,200 5x + 9y ≤ 525 x + y ≤ 525 9x + 5y ≤ 1,200 x + y ≤ 1,200 9x + 5y ≤ 525

boredfr:

Ok so the number on the right side of the \[\le\] sign is going to be the budget. You know this because of the numbers listed in the option choices (5 and 9, which are the prices). And if (x) is the number of adults and (y) is the number of campers then (x) needs to be next to $9 bc that is the price of an adult and (y) needs to be next to $5 because that is the price of a child. Based of of this, what do you think the answer is?

SmokeyBrown:

Adding off of that, we also know that the total number of people has to be less than 525. The total number of people will include campers (x) and adults (y), so that would be x+y x + y has to be less than or equal to 525, so that should help narrow down the choices as well

Igueessee:

So the answer would be D

SmokeyBrown:

Hold on, D would be the correct answer if the budget was 525 and the maximum number of people was 1200. Try switching those around, and you should get the right answer
