Jonas believes he made the right choice to escape. As it states in Chapter 22, “ He made the wrong one: the choice to leave. And now he was starving. If he had stayed he would have starved in other ways. He would have lived a life hungry for feelings, for color, for love.”. Jonas feels that if he stayed in the community he would have never starved, never been hurt. He then starts thinking about how if he had stayed he would have never experienced what life was like without sameness. Jonas thinks he had made the right decision even if he is starving he still thinks experiencing the outside world away from the barrier of the community was worth it.
