I do think Jonas made the right choice to escape for himself and Gabriel. It states in Chapter 22, “ He would have lived a life hungry for feelings, for color, for love.”.” and “And Gabriel? For Gabriel, there would have been no life at all. So there had not really been a choice.”. Jonas is making the right choice to escape for himself and Gabriel because he is protecting them both. The community basically confined Jonas where he was told to follow certain rules, act a certain way, and never got to see the real outside world. Jonas deserved the right to see what he had been missing out on for twelve straight years because of the lies told by the community to him. Jonas was also saving Gabriel because those of the community said Gabriel lacked basic mental skills to qualify to survive in the community and must be released (Killed).

Yeah it's great and I also agree with your reasoning, Jonas did do the right thing. He was just trying to help save Gabriel from being released, well done.
