no they don't but medals do help level up your smartscore

When you click on your name you will see that there is 3 different categories, each one of those contribute your smart score

You can level up by answering questions, asking questions, getting medals, fans, testimonials, and chatting in the all subjects chat located in the bottom right of your screen

it does not just take medals to gain your smartscore, and it takes more than one medal to gain your smartscore
