The mean absolute deviation is 2.44 inches for the baseball team and 1.8 inches for the tennis team. Which of the following conclusions can be drawn from the data? There is more variability in the baseball team member heights. There is more variability in the tennis team member heights. The baseball players are all taller than the tennis players. The tennis players are all taller than the baseball players.
Is this A or B? Am I right with B?
@Az
The bigger the MAD the more variability it has
Okay...
So A or B? o-O
Hmm, so B?
okay so you know what mean/average is, right?
Wait, wait, is it A?
i think a idk
Average can simply be defined as the sum of all the numbers divided by the total number, and a mean is defined as the set of two or more data values.
yeah lol so the mean absolute deviation tells you about how the numbers are in a set compared to the mean so if you had 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 then the mean is 5 and the mean absolute deviation is 0 since all the numbers are equal to the mean if you have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 the mean is still 5 but since these numbers vary more, when you calculate the mean absolute deviation (using the formula out there) you get 1.2
the MAD just tells you how much the numbers deviate from the mean (and the absolute part means we're just taking the positive number)
I understand now, thank you so much for the explanation.
Of course!
