How do you feel about the Three-Fifths Compromise? Was it a wise decision by the framers of the constitution to keep the nation united, or was it an unacceptable compromise even at the cost of the nation breaking up over the issue of slavery (as happened later during the Civil War (1861–1865)? Write a two-to-three paragraph response supporting your stand.
Firstly, do you know what the Three-Fifths Compromise is-?
Three-fifths compromise, compromise agreement between delegates from the Northern and the Southern states at the United States Constitutional Convention (1787) that three-fifths of the slave population would be counted for determining direct taxation and representation in the House of Representatives.
You copied that from Britannica lol, but okay
i kno
So to sum that up, it just means that one slave counted as three fifths of a person, because the South wanted the population, but there were way too many slaves to count everyone, because then the House of Representative among other stuff would be affected, putting the south on the top of most things o-O
So it's your opinion Was it a wise decision by the framers of the constitution to keep the nation united, or was it an unacceptable compromise even at the cost of the nation breaking up over the issue of slavery Which side do you stand on?
Okay, so then write about that. Go into how at the time, the government was weak, so to have that compromise, it would quickly sum the slave issue up, and so they could discuss other matters which they would consider more important
thanks
