SSSSSSSSSSSSS below
So you have a whole list of numbers what's the smallest number? what's the largest number?
1 and 16
so in your box plot, the left most one is the minimum value which is 1 and the right most would be the maximum value which is 16
Do you follow so far?
ya
Okay, now the center of the box, that's the median Do you know how to find the median? It's going to be the middle number of the set so what number is in the middle? 1, 4, 4, 5, 5, 7, 8, 8, 10, 11, 11, 11, 14, 15, 16
8
Good! So that's the middle number So far we have
That wasn't so hard, was it? Now to find the rest
The lower end of the box is called the lower quartile and to find that, we just have to find the median of the first half so remember how you said 8 was the median? Let's separate the entire list in to two 1, 4, 4, 5, 5, 7, 8, 8, 10, 11, 11, 11, 14, 15, 16 8 was the median now the lower quartile is going to be the median of of the first half of numbers the median of 1, 4, 4, 5, 5, 7, 8, and the upper quartile is the upper end of the box and that's going to be the median of the other half of numbers so the median of 10, 11, 11, 11, 14, 15, 16
Does that make sense? Can you find the medians of those two sets of numbers?
5 and 11?
You got it!!
