Joe348:

How do I solve for x?

Joe348:

kittybasil:

well, the middle line bisects the bottom side of the larger triangle, which by bisector rule means it's cut in half we see the equilateral triangle is 24 units long per side, so the cut-in-half side will now be a right-triangle leg of 12 units long

Joe348:

okay yes I got that part

kittybasil:

i.e. the highlighted part is 12

Joe348:

wait why

kittybasil:

so by Pythagorean theorem,\[x^2+12^2=24^2\]\[x^2+144=576\]etc.

kittybasil:

what do you mean? where are you confused

Joe348:

what is 12 used for?

Joe348:

ohhh nvm I get it

Joe348:

so do I find the square root of 432?

kittybasil:

sorry I was afk, basically the line in the middle "bisects" (which technically means to cut in half) the bottom side of the triangle and splits it into 2 equal lengths

Joe348:

I got 20.8 rounded and okay

kittybasil:

correct btw, square root of 432
