Linear and Nonlinear Associations This activity will help you meet these educational goals: Mathematical Practices—You will make sense of problems and solve them, reason abstractly and quantitatively, construct viable arguments and analyze the reasoning of others, attend to precision, look for and make use of structure, and look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning. Directions Read the instructions for this self-checked activity. Type in your response to each question, and check your answers. At the end of the activity, write a brief evaluation of your work. Activity In this activity, you will identify the type of association based on the scatter plots.

noobpro78:

Part A Does the graph show a linear or a nonlinear association? Explain your answer.

Extrinix:

Linear associations come in the first of negative or positive lines of points, whereas nonlinear association has non-straight lines of points.

noobpro78:

thx if you dont mind i have a couple more

Extrinix:

ok

noobpro78:

Part B Does the graph show a positive or a negative association? Or is it neither? Explain your answer.

Extrinix:

if Part A was linear, you would find whether it increased or decreased in value, if Part A was nonlinear, then it is not positive or negative

Extrinix:

Does the points increase/decrease in value, (linear) or do they have no constant rate of increase/decrease (nonlinear)?

noobpro78:

thx i have one more

Extrinix:

ok
