jake111:

The goal of a persuasive essay: The writer presents one side of the issue and presents his/her opinions with the arguments backed up by statistics, examples, facts and expert opinions. Introductory paragraph: Your first sentence of it should be your hook. The hook should always grab the reader's attention. (example: Like a good jackie chan movie grabs the attention of martial arts fans. The next part of your intro is putting in background info about the topic you are writing about. Try answering the following questions when adding background information. (What is the issue at hand? Who cares? Where is the issue prevalent? Why is the issue important?) Then state your thesis which will clarify what side you are on. This will conclude your introduction paragraph. The First, second, and third paragraphs: These three paragraphs make up the body of your essay. Each of these paragraphs should begin with a transition term. (Examples: In the first place, in addition, to continue, given these points, etc.) The topic sentence must always be supported with evidence. ( Examples: statistics/facts/Fiqures, Expert opinions, and examples.) When writing these never write in first or second pronouns. You third paragraph should always have a counter argument and your rebuttal. All the body paragraphs should be supporting your thesis statement. Conclusion : It should begin with a transition term and a restatement of your thesis statement. Also include your three arguments that were stated in your 3 body paragraphs. Then you will finally include your clincher statement to finish your essay. A clincher is a sentence that will leave your reader with a final thought.

Do you need help or are you just posting this? If you are just posting, this would be a great tool to use with my students in the writing center.
