Can someone identify the type of modifier this is? "As a native American who lived in a small town..." the modifier is "As a native American" I need to know if it's misplaced or dangling.
Misplaced Modifier: subject comes before the word it is describing Dangling Modifier: not stated in a complete sentence, an incomplete sentence From these you should be able to figure out which one it is.
Well there is more to the sentence so is it the first one?
"As a Native American who lived in a small town..." Complete or incomplete sentence?
incomplete. But there is more to the sentence. The full sentence is "As a Native American who moved from Baden, a small town in the middle of no where, to Germany, I have experienced a lot of culture shock."
so it is actually a full sentence
What is the modifier now?
Given the full sentence, does the subject have a personal pronoun after it? (I, me, my)
I'm not sure. I'm not native english speaker and its my first year in English school so i dont know
i think this is the key to solve this ,, I have experienced ..."
alright. And what can i do with that?
It show the personal pronoun in the sentence, if it was dangling there would be no pronoun period, and if it was misplaced there would be a pronoun `after` the sentence "As a Native American who lived in a small town..."
not sure i understend
A dangling modifier contains no pronoun Whereas the misplaced modifier contains "I" "me" or "my"
so it is misplaced?
or not?
Correct!
Okay i think i understend! Thank you!
