Both parties wanted a voice in their government as well as the right to exercise their fundamental liberties. Within the government, the Revolutionaries left religion behind. Puritans believed that religious leaders should manage the government in order to keep the community moral. The Revolutionaries thought that religion and government should be kept separate.
