Hmm, you shouldn't be adding it. When Vic reaches the 2 miles, Harold is behind by a tenth of a mile. And similarly when Harold reaches 2 miles, Charlie is a fifth of a mile behind. Vic:Harold is 2:1.9 Harold:Charlie is 2:1.8 So V/C = 2/1.9 and H/C = 2/1.8 And we're looking to find how far behind Charlie is from Vic so you could multiply those two ratios to find V/C and then whatever you get, you can set it equal to 2/x and x would be the distance that Charlie has run once Vic reaches 2 miles and then you can subtract to find out how far ahead Vic finishes
