niahmk:

Of the four expressions presented here, which two are equivalent? Expression I: 3n + 7 + n + 4n Expression II: 7n + 7 Expression III: 15n Expression IV: 8n + 7 I and II II and III III and IV I and IV

MrMudd183:

What do you believe the first step is to figure out what the question is asking for?

MrMudd183:

The first thing I would do is combine the like terms within the expressions that I can, which is only for Expression I

MrMudd183:

After that, we can use process of elimination to determine our answer

niahmk:

ok i got it thank you

MrMudd183:

You're welcome C:

as mudd said, you would simplify each expression so that it'll be easier to see which ones are the same,,, the only one we can simplify is expression 1, \(\bf \color{lime}{3n} + 7 + \color{lime} {n} + \color{lime}{4n}\) The terms that can be combined are (3n+n+4n) you should know that n is equal to 1n so, combining the like terms, 3n+n=4n 4n+4n=8n so, we're left if 8n+7 \(\sf \color{aqua}{Expression ~I}:~ \color{lime}{3n} + \color{tomato}{7} + \color{lime}{n} + \color{lime}{4n}\longrightarrow \boxed{\sf{\color{lime}{8n}+\color{tomato}{7}}}\\ \color{aqua}{Expression~ II}: ~\color{lime}{7n} + \color{tomato}{7}\\ \color{aqua}{Expression~ III}: ~ \color{lime}{15n}\\ \color{aqua}{Expression~ IV}: ~ \color{lime}{8n} + \color{tomato}{7}\) We can see that both Expression I and Expression IV are both 8n+7, so they are the same or equivalent. this means that 3n+7+n+4n equals 8n+7 or is equivalent to 8n+7.
