What impact has foreign trade had on United States' small businesses?

yohomieyankkee:

I don't know if it had an impact I think it just made it better for small business because they have more supplies or they could also have a big impact because some small businesses focuses on imported goods and since the trade getting those goods it makes it harder for them because people don't go to there store to buy them anymore

your welcome

KyanTheDoodle:

Foreign trade is often done because goods in other countries have less value in those areas than they would sell for over here, and thus would be a cheap import and make a profit. Small businesses usually have lower staff and aren't as "optimized" as bigger businesses when it comes to machinery and production, and their prices would be higher to accommodate for that. It goes without saying that the average consumer looks for a product with the cheapest price, so foreign trade would take a lot of small business' customer base.
