Hiya peeps! Here is a short story I wrote a bit ago! Enjoy! What Is Life Like As A Monday? I opened my eyes as I always do on my day of the week. A groan and sigh are the first sounds out of my mouth. A quick glance around my sparsely decorated room showed that my simple rickety chair, my old table, my dusty mirror, and my small clock were in the same places as usual. A glance at my clock, which was by no means an ordinary clock because it had days of the week rather than hours, told me that my shift was to start in just 20 minutes. I hopped out of my bed as if it were made of nails and then walked to my mirror to straighten up. Upon looking in the mirror I saw my face. It had large ears and bulging eyes. Its eyelids dropping wanting to close again. My hair was short and spiky. I passed a hand over my hair to make it a little tidier and then gave a grimace of a smile. “Time to wake the sun,” I said wearily. I walked out of my one-room house onto a soft fluffy cloud. In a circle around my house, there were six other houses. One for each day of the week. From each house, there was a path that led to a circular cloud with a large oxidated copper bell. Directly above the bell was a full moon hanging like a bouncy ball stopped in midair. As I started walking towards the bell I saw Sunday going into his house. Sunday had a jovial young face. His clothes were comfortable and his manner was carefree. “Good morning to you!” said Sunday brightly. I nodded non-conversationally back. “Aw come on Monday, why do you have to be such a party pooper. Can’t you loosen up?” “No,” I replied with a conversation ending tone. Sunday shrugged and went into his bright yellow house. That guy is always getting on my nerves. So jumpy and happy but never punctual. Upon finishing that thought I reached the central cloud. I raised my hand and rung the bell. With a sound like an old clock’s hour arm, the moon dropped out of view to be replaced by a larger big glowing ball. A large smile spread across my face as almost simultaneously a large collective groan reached my ears. The groans were music to my ears. The sound of Sunday’s freedom being taken away and Monday’s shackle attached. “How about a look-see at what’s going on today shall we?” I said to myself as I jumped off the central cloud. At first, I was just free falling. The wind whistling past my ears then, at the last moment, I stopped and simply floated. I chuckled and glanced at my surroundings.
A small barn house surrounded by fields of grain. Near the barn, a truck stood. At the moment the truck was empty but within the next hour, it would be clunking along to do its day of work. Next place! I thought to myself. I started to run and slowly as my speed increased to be faster than a car I stopped. A glance around showed a city of skyscrapers. Just now the first cars were arriving at their destination. Lines were starting to form at the coffee places and ACs were turning on. “Good,” I said to myself, “no problems yet.” I started to run again. The skyscrapers blurring into a wall of grey and then I stopped again. This time in front of a school. Buses were rolling in carrying hordes of droopy-eyed children. My smile spread wide as I watched the children trudge out of the buses and into their school. “That’s all to look at for now” I said to my self as I began floating upwards. After a bit I reached the central cloud again. I headed back into my house and did some reading until it was time for me to finish my shift. Once again I drifted down to the earth to finish the day. My smile diminished as I reached the school, the kids leaving the school had wide grins and were laughing with each other. Annoyed by all the happiness I decided to move on to the city. In the city all the adults were joking around making plans for the next day. My already small grin turned into a grimace. I moved on to the farm. Maybe they will still be working and miserable I thought to myself. However, when I got there I saw that the farmer was sitting down to a warm meal, his tractor turned off for the day, his field cared for and pruned. I frowned as I rose into the sky. Why can’t they work longer? They would get more done. I would have more fun! But, I knew that it was impossible to change and I would have to wait for next week to have some fun. When I reached the cloud I went and knocked on Tuesday’s door. “Time to work” I said moaningly as Tuesday opened the door. I quickly glanced over him taking in his smooth hair, bright eyes, and wrinkle-free clothing. As soon as I affirmed that he was ready to start his shift I began walking gloomily towards my house. “Well, I guess I have to wait for next week to see the humans being rumpled annoyed and sleepy.” With a sigh I closed my door and went to my bed. I closed my eyes and as soon as the bell rang, I fell into my week-long sleep.
