What happens to the molecules in water as it turns into ice

XxXNessalulbaddieXxX:

it creates ice right> xd??

MrMudd183:

The molecules within the water/ice start to slowdown and get closer together, making smaller room for them to move around in and they collide with each other much more frequently. Vice versa happens when ice turns into water, there is more room for the molecules within the water/ice start to hit each other less often since there is more room for them to move around in.
