Tasia2222:

The following table shows the points scored each game by Pat during the basketball season. a) What is the probability Pat scores between 10 and 15 points in a game? b) What is the probability Pat scores 16 or more points? c) This is an example of ___________ probability. Give reasons for your answer. The table: Points Frequency 0-9 1 10-15 6 16-20 5 21-25 17 25+ 8

SmokeyBrown:

Hi and welcome to QuestionCove! We have a table with different categories of observations. In total, there are 36 observations of 5 categories, each of which occurs with their own frequencies. The "10-15" point category has 6 observations. 6 out of a total 36. This would represent the probability that Pat scores between 10-15 points. To find the probability that Pat scores "16 or more" points, we would take the frequencies of scoring 16-20, 21-25, and 25+, add these frequencies together, since all of these categories fulfill the condition of "16 or more". For the type of probability in the question, consider that the frequencies in the table are based on a collection of observations, i.e. something similar to an "experiment". I think this should give you a big hint about the type of probability we're dealing with.

Tasia2222:

can you tell me the type of probability we are dealing with for question c? im just rly stressed and am trying to finish all these at once in a short amount of time

SmokeyBrown:

My best guess for part c would be "experimental probability", but again, this is just a guess, so you shouldn't take this as a definitive answer. My reason for believing the answer is "experimental probability" is that the probabilities are calculated based on the results of a limited number of observations.
