Hey Jaynator, there's been a really big problem lately where when you first try to make an account it says that you cannot make a new account at this time, even if we only have one account. Like, I tried to show this to my bff Ava bc she's been needing math help, and it wouldn't let her make an account even tho she just got a new laptop. Can you please help?

You say your friend tried to make a new account on her new laptop, and that the website wouldn't let her do that for some reason, yes?
It might be good for us to get some more information about the issue, in terms of what you tried and what the outcome was.
Do you have a screenshot of the page that comes up when she tries to make a new account? Does any message display describing the problem? What kind of laptop was she using; what operating system and browser; to be clear, no one has ever made a QC account using that laptop in the past (not sure if that would be a problem)?

Getting more information about the issue could help to identify the problem and hopefully, if possible, we can help your friend make an account so she can get the math help she wants :)

I decided to do a quick test just now by making a second account ( @testaccount123 ) on the same laptop I normally use. It worked fine, as you can see.
So, like OP already suspected, the issue is not related to the same machine being used for multiple accounts or the IP address (unless there was a ban, but they also said this was not the case).
Having ruled out that possibility, it still seems like we need more information to get to the bottom of this issue

I'd like to apologize on behalf of the not-very-helpful and frankly accusatory responses you got earlier, and if you felt the need to close the question over that, I think it's a shame.
For the record, I am glad you made this question, since it could also help others who are having a similar issue and it serves as a useful record. If it becomes necessary, you could also message a moderator directly, although there is no guarantee that they will get back to you; they may be in a better position to assist you, if they do see your message and you can get them the information they need.

To the others who participated in this comment thread, I would urge you to please read questions and replies carefully before replying and to reserve judgment beyond a high standard of proof. Remember that claims require evidence and that assuming and jumping to conclusions helps no one. Moreover, even if your suspicions are correct, there are appropriate procedures and better ways to handle it than essentially spamming what seems to be a legitimate question. For instance, if you suspect someone of evading a ban, it is better to simply report them, rather than--whatever happened here

Your IP was prevented from making new accounts. This happens if somebody has been abusing the create account feature to bypass suspensions, or otherwise break rules. Additionally, this can also happen if there are many accounts associated with the IP.
