From what I've read, it is an exam required to qualify for a civil service position in India, yes? That's interesting to me, since to my knowledge no analogous exam exists in the United States, where I live. Conceptually, it seems like a good idea, since we would want government officials to be qualified for their work, and an exam may be one way of determining that. It seems to represent the ideals of "meritocracy", which, at least in theory, I generally agree with.
I'm not sure about the practical details of how the exam is administered or taken, but it does seem like a good system, potentially
