Hello everyone! So, I've been taking a class called Cultures, which basically talks about everyone's different cultures around the world! So, that leads to my question. I wanna know what is something that feels completely normal for you, such as family traditions, holidays, food, etc., that seems just so wrong to everyone else?
I didn't know what else to put for the subject so I put social studies lol
you want to know what completly feels wrong or what - (ignore my spelling)
in tradion right -
tradition
Yeah, it can be tradition
For my faimily, it's chores. Apparently not many people have to do chores in there house.
well, i would say for me its normal i think this is a tradition i dont know but eating bugs or animals ? or in general indian/ russian traditions could be an example
LMAFAOOAOOFAO
for my family, uhh maybe business and working ?
ok good because i thought it wouldnt my head isnt working right
It's ok! It's just something that maybe like, a kid from school doesn't do and think is different, or something that only your household does, anything like that
my bad i was asleep
uhhh maybe japanese culture perhaps as welll
Ok so where I live we have this certain thing we do every spring, I'm not very sure if that'll help you with your question but yeah. We call it Mardi Gras, if you don't know what this is here, is the definition "a carnival held in some countries on Shrove Tuesday, most famously in New Orleans." Also, I'm not sure if this is commonly used in other places but we use certain words such as ain't, y'all, and gonna. We also might make some food that might be weird to some people such as gumbo and beignets. Sorry if this doesn't help you, it's just some things we do here that I wasn't sure if a lot of other people did. (Also sorry that my grammar is horrible)
It's a very interesting discussion topic, and a great opportunity to learn a bit about other cultures, so I'm glad you presented it as a Question! It's a bit difficult for me to say what other people would consider "strange", but my family does celebrate holidays that not everyone else does. For instance, Lunar New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, and other holidays I can't remember the names of ':D For most of these occasions we have special food too, like moon cakes, and zhongzi (I'm not sure what the English name would be, but they're kind of similar to Japanese onigiri, but made with sticky rice and steamed in a bamboo leaf wrapper) There's probably stuff I'm not thinking of right now, but there's some examples for your interest. And I'm looking forward to seeing what other people have to share as well :)
One thing could be the way we do math or the way we measure temperature. some places use celcius and some use farenheit. also the way our money is made seems wierd to some places. another thing is our calenders or dates. some places write it out as day-month-year, but we write it as month-day-year. some places think its just way out of order. another thing is how we hang american flags everywhere. or the fact that our pharmacies sell so many things. or eating bread that almost always tastes sweet. this may be way too much but i hope this helped :)
I'm half Dominican and Dominican people can be very loud and in-your-face so whenever I'm in an environment with a bunch of Dominicans and then I transition into a standard mix of people I have to remember to adjust my volume sometimes lol
im redneck and we keep chickens and rabbits in the house also my grandparents raise tadpoles
you raise tadpols?! 0_0 i would love to do that
