When I hear "the nature of science", I think that might be referring to the scientific method; you might reference this thinking process and these steps when forming your response.
The question also mentions "Dr. Buell's research", which I am not familiar with. But if the question specifically asks you to use examples from this research, I think it should be a helpful lead for you. If you'd like to post excerpts from the aforementioned "research", we may be able to take a look together and find out what parts might be important to include :)
