Some of these items listed could certainly benefit from the kind of embedded identifying information (for convenience) and encryption (for security) that "smart card technology" implies. Some of the items would not really need this kind of technology.

For instance, I struggle to think of how smart card technology would improve a simple greeting card... Perhaps you have some idea of which items would and would not work with smart card technology?
