general rule of the distributive property: A(B+C) = A*B + A*C multiply A and B, then A and C, then add the results. be mindful of positive/negative signs. applying this to the problem: 10-(8p+3)=9(2p-5) 10 - 8p - 3 = 18p - 45 simplifying 10 - 3 as 7 gives us 7 - 8p = 18p - 45 from there, you can add 8p to both sides and add 45 to both sides. this will gather all the p terms on one side and the constants on the other. from there, you can divide both sides by the coefficient of p to finish up the problem.
